In an attempt to perfect my skin like the girls I see in the Neutrogena commercials, I have been on a personal quest to find the best skin care products to incorporate into a daily regimen.

Recently on my Facebook and Instagram pages, I posted my weekly deep cleansing mask that went viral. Ok, maybe I'm exxagerating a bit; alright, alright I'm exxagerating A LOT! But, several of my IG followers and Facebook friends were ecstatic with the thought of achieving beautiful skin using a low-cost, all-natural recipe. In addition to this weekly mask, I've found that following a daily skincare routine is when I get the best results for clear and even skin. Lucky you I've posted it below.
*Although this regimen may not work for everyone, it's worth giving a try until you are able to determine which products and system work best for you and your skin type.
Taking care of your skin is ALWAYS important, but for me it seems as if extra care is needed when eduring the winter (extreme cold) and summer (extreme hot) months. Here are the steps I follow everyday to combat the elements!
STEP 1: CLEANSE
Cetaphil skin cleanser is one of my top choices due to it's affordability and versatility (it can be used on ALL skin types). In fact, it's gentle enough for a baby's delicate skin. It's mild, non-irritating formula soothes skin as it cleans. It is a simple yet highly-effective product and retails for about $3.00-$10.00 at your local Walmart or drugstore. When choosing a facial cleanser, remember the LESS ingredients the BETTER! If and when wearing makeup, I use an oil-free makeup remover or coconut oil prior to using a cleansing agent.
*TIP: Always wash your face with warm water (to open your pores for deep cleaning), and rinse with cool water (to close your pores keeping out the dirt & oil).
STEP 2: TONE
The one step that so many people skip or deem unimportant; however, I swear by using one. A toner helps to restore your skins PH after cleansing, or from factors like stress, lack of excercise, not drinking enough water, and diet among others. My fool proof, DIY toner consists of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (ACV) and distilled water in which I mix into a small, plastic spray bottle. You can apply it as a spritzer all over the face and neck, or spray the solution onto a cotton ball or pad before applying.
*TIP: Take it up a notch and add 1-2 drops of essential oil like lavendar or tea tree!
- Sensitive skin: 1 part ACV w/ 4 parts water
- Normal/Combination skin: 1 part ACV w/ 2 parts water
- Oily skin: 1 part ACV w/ 1 part water**
*I suggest performing a patch test on a small area of your face prior to using it all over.
STEP 3: MOISTURIZE
No matter your skin type, it needs to be moisturized daily to prevent dryness and wrinkles. This step is the cornerstone of a good skincare routine! Moisturizer provides a protective layer on the skin's surface and acts as a "barrier" between the skin and harsh environmental elements. A lightweight, oil-free product such as the Cetaphil daily moisturizing cream is ideal. It's fragrance-free and protects the skin against UVA and UVB rays (the bad guys).
Another moisturizing product that I use often is coconut oil. Among it's many uses, coconut oil is also an effective moisturizing agent for the face and body. It is known for being hydrating and does not contain alcohol or silicones. I use unrefined, unfiltered organic coconut oil. However, if you have acne-prone skin I wouldn't suggest using coconut oil (or any oil for that matter). Subsequently, it could aggravate the skin by clogging your pores; the root of all acne.
*TIP: Apply your moisturizer while your skin is still damp to help lock in the moisture.
For optimal results, exfoliate 2-4 times per week in addition to doing a weekly deep cleansing facial mask. I'll blog about my luxurious DIY face and body scrub soon! Will you be giving this skincare routine a try? Let me know how it works for you!
